Hi! My name is Christine Phillips.
I am a certified Irlen® Diagnostician and a registered Teacher, based in Ballarat, Victoria. I provide Irlen® screening diagnostic assessments, advice, Irlen® products and specialised tutoring.

Does your child continue to have reading or spelling difficulties for no obvious reason, and even  despite having had intervention at school?

Does your child come home often feeling exhausted or with headaches?

Has your child been labelled as: “easily distracted”; “ ADD/ADHD”; “lazy” or “has a learning disorder”?

This can be due to Irlen® Syndrome, a condition which affects around 15% of the general population and 49% of those with learning difficulties. Some people with this condition may not have learning difficulties but can have problems with light sensitivity, brightness, glare, headaches, migraines, eye strain and fatigue.

An Irlen® screening diagnostic assessment can determine if Irlen® Syndrome is contributing to your problems.

Irlen® Syndrome

Irlen® Syndrome; also called Meares-Irlen Syndrome, Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome or Visual Stress is a perceptual processing disorder. It is not an optical problem. It is a problem with the brain’s ability to process visual information. This problem tends to run in families and is not currently identified by other standardised educational or medical tests. The symptoms vary widely and affect people differently.

The Irlen® Method

The Irlen® Method is non-invasive technology that uses coloured overlays and filters to improve the brain’s ability to process visual information. It is the only method scientifically proven to correct successfully the processing problems associated with Irlen® Syndrome.

Testing

The Irlen® Method is a two-step process: problem identification and color identification and requires two testing sessions. Family members participate with their children in the evaluation process. The color (which is different for each person) is the key to the success of the program and can only be determined after a diagnostic assessment performed by a certified educational professional trained in the Irlen® Method.
